Plenty of devices that would change how a procedure is done never make it into Australian hospitals. The large distributors carry thousands of products and can’t give a niche device the time it takes to change practice. The smaller brands with the interesting devices have no one on the ground. So the device sits in a catalogue, and the patient gets the older option.
Velara was started to close that gap: a short list of products, each one chosen because it moves a procedure out of theatre or takes a step out of it, brought in by people who train the team and stay in the room for the first cases.
